Simple Decor Updates: Transitioning From Summer to Fall

White Dahlia Design

Fall is in the air, so that means it's time to dim those lights and get cozy! With the drop in temperatures, you are sure to spend more time in your home, which means you will want to switch out your bright summer decor, for more moody and ambient fall-inspired pieces. By introducing a few key pieces, you can stay within a budget and give your space a spruce for the sweater season.

If you are unsure where to begin, don't worry, we got you! This week we are sharing with you five simple decor changes you can make to help bring your home into the fall season. Let’s get started!

1. Accenting Your Colour Scheme

When we think of fall, our mind instantly wanders to rich tones such as deep oranges, reds, browns, and greens which replicate the colour of the falling leaves. While fall colours tend to be rich and warm, you can also introduce warmth and coziness using a neutral colour palette. By accenting your typical neutral off-whites, browns, and greys with these rich and deep colours, you can achieve a fall vibe in your home. We love using the seasonal colour palette by Benjamin Moore as a guide when choosing accenting colour combinations!

The easiest way to introduce these tones is through the use of textiles - think rugs, pillows, and throw blankets, the cozier the better! You can also change up your wall art to incorporate these colours by adding a fall wreath or canvas painting. Get some of our favourite fall must-haves from Crate & Barrel below!

2. Seasonal Table Decor

Decorating your dining table for fall is a simple, yet elegant way to incorporate fall seasonal decor. Just imagine hosting your Thanksgiving dinner party, with a beautifully crafted and curated centrepiece. This is the place to incorporate fall florals such as dried eucalyptus and pampas grass. Accent these florals with some aromatic candles, pumpkin decor, and luxurious napkins, and you have yourself the perfect ambient setting for a dinner party or a romantic date night at home! For a more cozy vibe, try incorporating a table runner with seasonal-inspired patterns and textures such as plaid, or woven jute. Shop some of our favourite table accents below!

3. Ambient Lighting

Dim the lights and let the ambiance sparkle! Fall is all about introducing warm, soft lighting. The cool temperatures outside give the need to create a warm and welcoming interior. It's time to light those fireplaces and candles to create an ambient vibe. Just picture curling up in a comfy chair with a warm cup of cider, reading your favourite book by the light of the fire. Don't have a fireplace? Don't worry - there is plenty of other warm lighting sources you can introduce into your space such as lanterns and string lights! This will create the perfect atmosphere for curling up and binge-watching all your favourite Halloween movies. Get some of our favourite fall must-haves from Crate & Barrel below!

4. Mantle Decor

Speaking of ambient lighting and fireplaces, a sweet and very simple way to incorporate seasonal decor is by switching up some items on your fireplace mantle. Incorporate some of your dried fall florals from your table decor, into your mantle to add a cohesive look throughout your home. To exemplify warmth and an organic feeling to your living room, add in some real logs, even if your fireplace is electric or gas. This will give the illusion of a real wood-burning fireplace! Above the mantle is the perfect place for a piece of fall-inspired art, or if you have a smaller space that you want to feel bigger, place an aged mirror above the mantle. 5. Fall Door Decor

The last tip for transitioning your decor into fall, is to spruce up your front door. This is one area where less is definitely not more! You want your front door to be welcoming and well-styled, as this is the first place guests see when entering your home. Style your summer planters with late-blooming florals such as pansies, garden mums, and sunflowers, and spruce up your front door with a beautiful fall wreath. Take your family out to a local pumpkin patch to pick out a bunch of varying coloured pumpkins, and use these to cascade down your front steps. If you are feeling particularly crafty, try painting the pumpkins in pretty pastel colours as pictured above. Shop some of our favorite front door decor below!
