Fall Fresh Décor- Autumnal Ideas for Your Home This Season

Clark + Aldine

We can’t believe it is officially the first week of fall. An exciting time of warmth, gathering, and of course, everything pumpkin! In celebration of the wonderful seasonal change from long summer days to cooler days, we are sharing some of our key designer tips on how you can prep your home in a unique way for the season. So, bring on the sweater weather, the warm drinks, and the cozy nights by the fire, and let's explore how we can make the most of this fall season from the comfort of our homes!

Summer is over, now what...?

Hip and Humble Style Wellboxed

Yes, we all love the warmer weather, the outdoor activities, the sunny water, and the weekend getaways, but fall has so much charm too. In the same way, our environment changes all around us each season, so should our homes, helping us to foster creativity, joy, and a sense of fresh beginnings. Every season brings in new activities, new lifestyles, and new colours, so why not allow our everyday surroundings to change too? Forget your typical fall décor and colours this year and explore some new ideas! We can easily get stuck in the routine and preexisting ideas of what we know traditional autumnal décor to be.

Your Entryway

What better way to make a fantastic first impression than by creating an entryway statement for every season! (Of course, fall is one of our favourites). Bring in some seasonal décor items, but experiment with colours that are different than the typical orange, browns, and reds. Whether your style is minimal and sleek, or more traditional and elaborate, your front entry makes that first peek into your space dynamic and elevates its ambiance for fall.

Why not paint some pumpkins a fun colour, or in a simple neutral. Plus, dry botanicals such as eucalyptus or pampas grass are a lovely touch to bring in the rustic, harvest vibe.

You Can Still Use Your Patio

Depending on where you live, it may not be too late to make the most of your patio space before the snow flies. Don’t be afraid to pull out thick blankets and throw pillows to create a cozy outdoor oasis. Friends and family can gather around a heater or fire pit with warm apple cider and watch the leaves fly. Consider adding some ambiance lanterns and string lighting for visual warmth, and a fall wreath, pumpkins, or some seasonal foliage. Consider layering some outdoor rugs to make it extra homey. Utilizing your outdoor spaces can add extra excitement to evening campfires, board games, and wine and cheese nights with your loved ones.

Make Your Dining Room a Focal Point

Fall brings with it many reasons to celebrate with those we love. In Canada, Thanksgiving is right around the corner, a holiday that invites family and friends to gather together in warmth and abundance. There are also many comforting foods and fresh produce from the gardens to harvest and share together. This makes autumn the perfect time to elevate your dining table and take it to the next level. Play with patterns, textures, and florals to help create visual interest and personality. Consider adding a rich warm colour palette, or experiment with pastels or black and whites with some gold accents. Finish it up by adding a centrepiece as emphasis to pull the room together.

Think Outside The Box

We love the iconic staples of fall and seasonal décor such as pumpkins, dried leaves, and corn stalks, however, there are many other options that are slightly more unique that can also give your spaces that fall-ready look. Explore different items and options looking at textures such as knitted patterns, faux furs, plaid patterns, and burlap. As well, updating your light bulbs to cast a warmer hue is also a great option for decorative lighting to warm up spaces, making them feel cozy and joyful. If the rich earth-toned colour scheme isn’t for you, consider a pastel colour palette, we promise you’ll love it!

Check out this colour palette by Benjamin Moore. It includes the more classic fall tones but also incorporates a few airy pastels and off whites perfect for an alternative fall design.
